The person who sold me my Neon only had one key, and I’d like to get a second. Is the dealership the only place to get one?
I’ve called two different dealerships and the morons there can’t figure out how their phones work and either hang up on me or transfer me to an answering machine while they go to look something up. At TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS!!! I can’t believe how much these places suck from top to bottom the second you make contact with them.
UPDATE: It sounds like my key isn’t chipped, so I should be able to go anywhere. Thanks oppo!

Depends on if you have the security system optioned. If you do, the key is can only be made at a dealer. If your key is light grey and rubberized, it’s chipped. If the key is hard black plastic you’re good to get one made at any old hardware store.
You can get a hardware store to duplicate a chipped key but it'll only be able to unlock the door, not start the car.

Try your local hardware store or, failing that, a locksmith. Almost anybody who does keys also does car keys, even some of the ‘chip keys’ that were big in the late 90s-mid 2000s. The Ace Hardware down the road from me does them.

A good locks mith will have the equipment to do security keys for cars.

I’m in the same boat. There’s a kiosk at Home Depot that says they can do transponder keys for ~$80, which seems like a better deal that spending $300 or whatever at the Volvo dealership for a new remote (not sure if they can do a non-remote key) . I’ve seen other keycutting places that say they can do chipped car keys as well, but am always a bit cautious about whether they would actually work.

You have a key? Is it chipped? Are the cuts worn?
If it is not chipped and the cuts are not worn then any good locksmith or hardware store can make a copy.
If it is chipped or worn you will need to go to the dealer.

Like others have said. Locksmith can get you the right key and program it since you have the “Sentry ” grey head key with a chip in it.
Or you can buy one cheap online and have a dealer cut and program it (the key itself is like $70 MSRP thru Mopar), but prices for that vary.
We charge $50.

It’s hard black plastic, so no chip I guess. Thanks!

Nope, I have the black plastic key, so no chip?

Does your Neon have a chip key? If so, then if you want a key that will START the car, then yes. If you want one that will merely open the doors / trunk, any local hardware store should be able to do it.

99 and before: normal key, you can get a new one at HD or Walmart for like $4.
Post-99 are transponder keys. Most places like HD or a hardware store will cut them for free or a few dollars . Buy one on Amazon. This website has instructions for programming: https://lost-car-keys-replacement.com/dodge/program/

No chip. Any key will do. May I recommend you go Old School?
